“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
What is the will of God for you and me? That we rejoice in all our circumstances, praying continually.
No matter what is going on in your life right now, don’t forget that God is in control, and pray that His will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10).
Protect your prayer life.
Especially, don’t allow anything or anyone to come between your times of prayer, since prayer is our lifeline to God’s presence in our lives. Therefore, we must maintain an open line at all times. Through prayer we receive His guidance and strength, for without Him we can do nothing of eternal value.
Throughout your day, try to stop and pray about everything. Your prayers don’t need to be long or eloquent supplications; they can also be short mutterings beneath your breath. Talk to the Lord frequently. About about what? About whatever comes to your mind or whatever you’re doing. The continual practice of prayer each day will give you great wisdom, spiritual strength, peace and joy.
A good practice which is well pleasing to God is intercession. Pray and intercede for others. Pray for those who need salvation, or those who are hurting, suffering, or sick. As you read the news, you can also pray for the resolution to the many problems happening in the world. In other words, pray about everything!
The Bible has much to say about the importance of prayer. We aren’t limited to just praying pre-written prayers like the “Lord’s Prayer.” God wants us to pray all kinds of prayers – for every need or situation (Ephesians 6:18). Praying always gives us the opportunity to remain in a continual state of communion with our heavenly Father, every moment of the day.
As we do, we will become His instruments of effecting change, bringing about good in the world, and grow to love and know Him better.
Starting today, won’t you try to increase your prayer life? You’ll be glad you did.
